The origin of stories is a short video project visualising the written work of Joseph cambell.

The hero

My intrigue with Cambells work began with a discussion I had with the head of the Graphic Communication degree program at the University of Plymouth whilst in my final year of the course. I had often wondered how the character archetypes present in modern stories seem to repeat themselves and wanted to know know more about why this is the case, are we just lazy copycats or was there more to it than that?

That’s where the work of Joseph Cambell came in, his disection of narrative archetypes as well as the threads that bind us together across history paint a vivid picture of narrative that I was eager to visualise.

Work narrated by Jonah Scott.
